Spoilers: Install Linux. Your performance will be even better!

bhamlin@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 67d

Even better, you won't need "hacks" to enable "speed."

*unless you have one of the many nvidia or intel cards that perform worse under linux

This simply isn’t an option for large number of people.

For work computers maybe, but this is PCMR - we're probably here for gaming, and these days Linux is actually better in many ways.

My work actually can't be done on windows :), *NIX only.

Even depends on what kind of work

Besides graphic suites, where Adobe still holds strong, and some specific stubborn companies only pushing windows tools to configure some hardware, I don't see that many work related things being a problem.

Most stuff is office, mail and else often just browser based stuff

We're getting more and more into niche territory, where Linux can't keep up - and even there, it's not Linux' fault

I say, we have a golden year of the Linux desktop ahead of us!!!
And I should know, I keep telling that since 20 years ;-)

Fair point.

VR gaming would like a word

Steam Frame would like a word

javasux@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 67d (5 replies)

Steam frame has not been released yet

CeeBee_Eh@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 67d (4 replies)

Point being?

javasux@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 67d

Point being that you can't say Linux is better for VR if you can't currently buy a headset that works well on Linux

Leminski@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 67d

WiVRN?

The mentioned "fix" got nothing to do with games.

This isn't about gaming, where Linux has all kinds of disadvantages on the software side.

This is about OS performance, where Linux is just objectively lighter than Windows.

BCsven@lemmy.ca · 48 pts · 68d (4 replies)

Lol so instead of a less bloated OS, it just instantly boosts GPU frequency.

warmaster@lemmy.world · 42 pts · 68d

Microsoft is the best thing that happened to Linux. On one side, they are one of if not THE biggest contributor and sponsor to the Linux kernel. On the other hand, they strive to make Windows 11 the shittiest OS in the world.

Thanks Microslop!

CPU

BCsven@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 67d

Ah right. I meant to type C

MangoPenguin@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 17 pts · 67d

Wow I thought maybe they had finally optimized the code better so things weren't so laggy, but no this just makes your CPU boost faster to try and run their crappy slow code lol.

Bosht@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 67d

This has heavy 'download more RAM' vibes. "Checks notes" ... So they're forcing overclock on the CPU??? I guess optimizing shitty code was too big of an ask.

Catchy or Mint, zoom zoom.
