I'd take the hit with social D. I also considered propigandi and quibbled with adding rage against the machine, but they split genres a bit, raw punk spirit or not.
If we are gonna push the genre, I'd add in Gogol bordellos gypsy punk and The Cramps psychobilly. Both get my ass in gear the same way as all the above.
These are 2 quotes by the German punk rock band Die Ärzte. One from their song Ist das noch Punkrock? (Is it/this still punk rock?) And the other from their song Punk ist... (Punk is...) In which they're making fun of gatekeeping and giving a shit about how people call it.
As if an anarchist would care about narrow-minded opinions lol.
Fun fact: their drummer's name, who sings punk ist .., is Bela B., so it's a BB quote, not some GG
Depends on the gates being kept. Belittling people over what bands they’ve seen on their jackets, not dressing the part but living the life, enjoying music other than pure punk rock; that’s all performative bs. Making sure the people hanging around the scene in your community aren’t bigots trying to recruit/twist the message, predators trying to get access to vulnerable individuals, and pushers trying to find a new market; gate’s closed and it will be aggressively enforced.
Well one of their song goes "we're only hanging around at schools, selling crack to small children, singing obscene songs and go out late in the evening" but that's sarcasm lol. Their guitarist and main singer is a straight edge pescetarian. They're fun punks but also serious. One of their last big songs was "Demokratie", teaching people in these trying times to not let it happen again here in Germany
SP were a band put together by the owners of a London clothes shop to advertise boots and ripped t-shirts to teenagers.
They were sellouts before even beginning their carreer.

I don't know much about punk, but shouldn't The Clash be up there?

There's a whole lot of bands that should be above the sex pistols and the Ramons.
rainwall@piefed.social · 33 pts · 89d
Agreed. The Clash, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Bikini kill, the offspring, on and on.
Fuck man, I would put them both under Green day, because at least Green day stood for something with its pop punk.

All the bands you like and have heard of are bad. Only bands that only I've heard of and like are good.

The first mp3 I ever downloaded was 21st Century Digital Boy.
The irony was lost on me at the time.

As soon as a punk group gets famous they're mainstream and therefore not punk.
BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 88d
if they have released any sort of material in any format they cease being punk
titanicx@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 87d
If they have played any shows in front of audiences that consisted more then their parents they shouldn't be on this list.
BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 87d

I agree with everything except the Ramones, those garbage pop hacks should have never existed. Absolutely trash
