The dragon-slaying knight doesn’t seem particularly historical-materialist. Was it actually from the Soviet era, or from a post-Soviet Russia reembracing its pre-Soviet heritage?
Next, they could retrofit balconies to the commieblocks lining the road. A balcony over a walkable park is an entirely different proposition to one over a stew of traffic fumes.
IIRC, The Satanic Temple started as a satirical project (“if cruelty and oppression is Christian, what if Satanism was about being nice?”) and then ran away. When the flaws in the organisation/the founders’ histories came to light, dissatisfied members/supporters formed new groups more sincerely committed to basically humanism and social justice in Satanistic theatrical costume, such as the Global Order of Satan.
Both of these groups are still ahead of Anton LaVey’s Church of Satan, which started as an Ayn Rand-inspired backlash against 1960s hippie peace-and-love, but these days would be indistinguishable from Republican Christianity except for the symbols.
Are they still allowed into the Schengen zone? If so, the German government will have some tough questions to answer regarding its Staatsräson obligations.
The problem with weighting votes is that one that’s allowed, if another group comes into power, they can change the weights to suit them by deciding that the currently favoured voters have it alright whereas another group are doing it hard.
Mostly not, but there are normal people among them. In the fediverse, it’s mostly those who feel that they have no place anywhere else. (Occasionally a curious normie makes an account. You see vast swathes of these accounts which were last logged into 2 1/2 years ago while they engage and build clout somewhere where there are others like them.)
That makes a huge difference to something that’s meant to be an ongoing service or product rather than a throwaway script or something. Writing code is a very small part of the effort: maintaining the codebase, fixing bugs/security issues, adding features/making any changes that are needed dwarfs that, and for LLM-generated apps, that part is vastly harder. LLMs are great at generating superhuman quantities of code which works (for some definition of working), but the resulting code, being the process not of a mind with intentions and their own understanding of the nuances of the problem and the tradeoffs of solutions, is much more difficult to understand and maintain. Individual LLM edits may look sensible, but the complete codebase is incoherent, with parts mismatching, which often leads to bugs. (This is assuming that the project was developed by someone who at least reviewed the LLM changes before merging them. If it’s “vibe-coded” by using the LLM like a slot machine and not looking at the code, the result is going to be obviously garbage.) In any case, a shiny new vibe-coded web app is unlikely to last in the real world.
If you want to interact with normal people, it’s the least-bad game in town. You might even find some established journalists, musicians, authors and such.
The good news: Zuckerberg, Ellison, Altman et al. will all be bankrupt
The bad news: everything they’ve assembled will be sold off, and as such, bought up. By 2030, everything from Gmail, Instagram and TikTok to Android and the Java programming language may all be owned by the Trump Org’s Truth Social subsidiary and/or the Saudi sovereign wealth fund
And the US giving Ukraine a license to make Patriots could have had the effect of diverting resources from the sovereign interceptor programme to the tried and tested one, ensuring US influence and licensing revenue for years to come, not to mention reducing the risk of competition in the export market (the Ukrainian-European venture that makes whatever replaces Patriot will have ready export markets for it, in Taiwan/Japan/the Philippines and the Persian Gulf to name two regions).
What Krasnov doesn’t understand is that if the US doesn’t let Ukraine build Patriots, that won’t result in Russian air superiority over Kyiv and Trump Org deals with Moscow about Kiev real estate. It will result in Ukraine and Europe developing their own interceptors and cutting their dependence on ones the US can restrict or extract profits from.
In much of the evolutionary timeline that shaped our nervous systems, it was normal to be in a state of heightened awareness looking out for predators and other threats.
There are a lot of people in third-world shantytowns who’d be appalled at the sort of things the most frugal of us fritter our money away on while they struggle to get drinkable water
The best time to have had these talks was three years ago. The second-best time is ASAP.
Maybe they can get Marvel to put an Iranian villain in their next film or something.

That type of guy also includes a lot of oleaginous douchebags with acoustic guitars.
