Isn't the backrooms one of those creepypastas that a bunch of different people have added to over the years? Those kinds of works have no inherent canon, just stories the community values over others. Gatekeeping normies for not knowing all the cool stories is cringe; sell them on why they should read those stories instead.

Besides, there is nothing wrong with an adaptation not using most of the lore. Short web series and movies need to be more focused than that.

my problem is not kane himself but his fans and tourists who will claim that the wikis ruined the backrooms and kane was the inventor despite not only kane not inventing the concept these wikis predate the first found footage by a few years

Why can't people just enjoy things? Is it not enough that there is both a cool shared universe that writers can collaborate on, AND passionate filmmakers bringing the universe to life for a wider audience? Like, annoying people will be annoying, but that happens with any piece of media online. Don't let those fuckers ruin what you like; who cares if they have an objectively wrong opinion? Those people aren't worth thinking about unless they're doing serious harassment or something.

It is not merely that I be right, but that you must be wrong.

There are several degrees of separation between the SCP-like Backrooms universe that is generally understood to be "canon" and Kane's work.

There is no "backrooms canon". I imagine the people who were disappointed were wiki fans. The film had none of the "cool levels and secret passages" wiki fans were probably hoping for

I genuinely though Kane was the "inventor" of the Backrooms?

The Backrooms originated on 4Chan. There is no way to verify the identity of the author of the original.

No, the concept predates Kane's work. It started as just a single post with an image of the famous yellow rooms. The backrooms then developed its own lore when users would expand on it SCP style.
