If they cancelled it because the original fans would have liked it too much I’m glad they cancelled it rather than have execs on set making it suck and then releasing it

This is some high quality GIF action. I can't remember the last time I saw such quality. If I have to see another low quality GIF, I'm going to lose it. You know, go crazy. Nuts. Insane. Bonzo. No longer in possession of my faculties. Three fries short of a happy meal... WACKO!

I can't believe that post has only 25 upvotes! That tutorial is the first Lemmy post I've ever bookmarked.

Indeed

Star Trek, Dr Who, and now Stargate?

TV shows are like McDonalds now.

Anything with any interesting flavor is going to automatically turn off 50% of potential eaters, so everything has to be a bland, boring, safe, middle of the road exercise in mediocrity or else it won't sell to as many boring people as possible.

We're never getting anything good from a major studio again unless it's by complete accident.

My cynicism levels are so high that someone close called me a "hater" recently. But I just don't see the possibility of anyone taking an older, loved, and cherished IP and making something new with it that wouldn't suck. I've just been let down so many times before. :(

slazer2au@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 69d (2 replies)

Probably on a research base somewhere.

Given what happened to the top guy from her training class, she’s probably long dead… ¯\(ツ)

Meh, Paramount isn't doing very good right now. Look at Stargate Academy: wonderfully diverse new characters, given boring teen romance plots with poor story consistency. And since it's both gay and mid, the fascist fans blame the mid on the gay and the fanbase drifts more right-leaning, which is going to make future Star Trek shows suck! Instead of doing Starfleet Academy, they should have just made Upper Decks for half the price and everyone would have loved it.

So I kinda think the new Stargate show would have sucked and it's better to just give up on the whole thing. I haven't finished Atlantis yet, so I've still got new Stargate to watch.

And to elaborate upon the poor story consistency:

Jay-Den on the first day of class: I don't want to die valiantly, I want to live valiantly!

Darem on the first day of class: Look at me, I'm the leader of the jerk squad!

Jay-Den when he gets his own episode: I'm such a bad warrior, I haven't reconciled my upbringing with my personality yet.

Darem when he gets his own episode: Before I joined Starfleet I was a timid friendless geek, but I think I'm actually a confident asshole on the inside.

Both of these episodes are great stories in isolation, but the problem is that these characters were introduced to us as their older fully realised selves, and then we watched them get retconned to less realised people and organically develop into their starting portrayals. The stories are robbed of weight because they're solving problems created by a retcon.
