Actually average speeds are likely to increase by 10-15 kms/h. Instead of feeling safe doing 115 in 100 zone they'll do 125 in a 110 zone cause "a cop can't count that as speeding"
I'm comfortable driving a lot of highways faster than the posted limited, i choose not to most of the time because of the ticket risk and financial impact that it can bring. 10-15 over is generally accepted as not ticketable and I'll often set the cruise if equipped around that speed to prevent getting a ticket. There are others like me who will be going faster now by using their cruise or self control to maintain their speed.
Average speeds may not have changed much, that is far more to do with poor enfrocement than it is with the limit itself. Design is a factor but harder to narrow down for a highway like it would for a city street trying to calm speeds. A highway has to accomadate a 20 year old sedan, a large transport, a modern sports car, and a pickup truck at high speeds. Making it safe for the transport to maintain 110 is going to make it feel safer to go a lot faster in a sports car or modern SUV.
None, but this is more for truckers and vehicles with governors / speed limiters, to let them go faster. The whole 'commute time' bullshit is precisely that.
Fucking useless and infuriating. From Ottawa… Most, but not all of the 416 is 110 but once you get on the 401 it’s back down to 100 all the way from the 416 to the west side of Kingston. Then it’s 110 till you have to slow down to 100 again through Belleville. Back up to 110 again till you have to slow down to 100 at The Big Apple in Colborne. Up to 110 again at Coburg. Down to 100 when you get to the GTA. Have these two halfwits ever driven on the highway? It’s sooooooo helpful when the accordion effect is purposely induced. I don’t care if the limit is 80 or 130. Just leave it the fucken same all the way from the QC border to Detroit ffs

On the highway, it is shown average speeds don’t change. People will still just drive at the speed they feel comfortable.

I just set my cruise at 120 regardless if it’s 100 or 110.

Ottawa to Toronto = 450km.
450km @ 100kph = 4h 30 min.
450km @ 110kph = 4h 5min
Where is the 30 minute savings?
Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca · 9 pts · 56d
There are none because you would have done 140 km/hr before, and 140 km/hr now.

Dunno who that is standing beside Ford but I've seen him in misinformation videos circulating on the right before.
