Miss Frizzle is a time lady and the magic school bus is a tardis.
I don't know, that theory feels quite lazy. It's basically what if they were in a coma/it was all a dream tweaked to be "what if they were all on drugs".
Plus they start at least a couple episodes in the classroom

For one things giving a bus full of kids some acid does not result in a bunch of placid children as per my time with the CIA
