What am I looking at here? When I click the link it's all just code, do I need an RSS feed reader?

strawberry_enjoyer42@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 5 pts · 36d

Correct! The root sites have the viewable content, but I shared the links you'd want to put into an RSS feed reader.

I see lots of people use RSS for news and stuff, I mostly just follow personal sites from people whose art, articles and even diary I find interesting, you can find some here https://rss-list.neocities.org/

Guess it's time to post some webcomics I really like:

Also, YouTube itself doesn't implement RSS (though it used to), but some RSS readers have a feature to follow Youtube Channels, which might be an idea if you like content on Youtube but don't want to be controlled by Youtube's algorithm.

I haven't used an RSS in like 14 years, how do they even work these days?

N0tTr0xy@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 5 pts · 36d (1 reply)

Thunderbird still has an RSS reader. Firefox dropped RSS afaik, but there is an addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/want-my-rss/ (not a reader, just feed preview and location bar indicator for embedded feeds)

FeedFlow and Neo Feed are 2 great FOSS rss readers for Android in the f-droid appstore

what's the advantage of having feeds over browsing lemmy? this way at least i can comment and discuss

riwo@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 32d

to me they are different use cases. i go to lemmy to see what people post and repost in lemmy communities. i use feeds to flow individuals blogs and news sites. that stuff does not get posted to lemmy or if it does, it's either as a repost without any guarantee that future releases will also be reposted, or i might miss it, because i didnt check lemmy for a day.
