I’m curious to know what my fellow communists think of the candidates this year that are running campaigns that identify as socialist and are running with DSA support.
Personally, I understand and agree with many of the criticisms I see on Lemmy towards demsoc politicians. Over the last decade or so, I think politicians like AOC and Bernie have given us plenty to criticize.
But that said, when I look at candidates like Darializa Avila-Chevalier and Claire Valdez, I see people who are well to the left of what I think we often consider to be just “liberal demsocs”. It seems like a qualitative difference. These newer candidates seem more disciplined and focused on building class consciousness. I don’t, maybe I’m off base here. But I would like to know what you all think - beyond platitudes about electoralism or the DSA in general and more specifically about some of these individuals.

I see the wave against the DNC and GOP as symptomatic of imperial decay, but think we need to support a more correct and unified line than the DNC allows, otherwise we will lose this momentum to the problems of social democracy. It's a good sign and good momentum, we just need to steer it correctly.

Agreed. I am hoping that, if we're lucky, the DNC establishment's reaction to this will result in people finally embracing the need for third parties. We just need to be able to steer them towards a true left option, instead of getting sheepdogged again, though seeing AOCIA coming out for the establishment has me hoping that people will be radicalized by all this.

Yes. It is critical that a group like the DSA make an urgent clean break with the dems and establish a clearly class independent movement. While working in a bourgeois party, they become bourgeois ministers.

Imperial-core social democracy is a dead end whose goal is to preserve the empire by treating its internal symptoms, and is still harmful to the majority of the world's workers, most of whom do not live in the US.
