Is slough the only place that is used ironically in media, but sarcastically IRL?

Come, friendly bombs, and fall on Slough
It isn't fit for humans now,
There isn't grass to graze a cow
Swarm over, Death!

The hallucinating, gaslighting, sycophantic chatbots that were hyped via propaganda campaigns that promoted them as the future and key to efficiency, are now destroying humanity and locking people in addictive cycles of delusion.
"Ya better hop on board! Don't wanna get left behind..."
The hallucinating sycophantic chatbots are not only destroying the capacity for human relationships and interactions, they're not even "efficient" and have destroyed most of the companies that have embraced them.
The economy is absolute shit. "AI" companies aren't even making any money but the chatbot addicts are still throwing endless piles of cash at them to burn while chasing the high that will never deliver (the cycle of desperate delusions common to any addiction), because the chatbots have them convinced (deluded) they're always on the edge of the big breakthrough that will finally make it all worthwhile.
And as the number of data centers increases, people are starting to take notice it sure does seem to be getting hot in this pot of boiling water... "Wonder what that's all about? I'll ask the company that owns the data center if it's anything I should be concerned about?"
"... Nope, turns out there's a reassuring explanation for why this is all fine and nothing is as it seems... It just feels like this pot of water is getting hotter to you, but facts don't care about your feelings. You can't argue with facts..."
"Just relax and come on in, the water's fine!"

How many is that in American
But seriously, that’s a huge jump.
ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net · 4 pts · 41d
I'm guessing about 30 American degrees.

more than 10, less than 100

16.2°F

Maybe put the data center up north in a Nordic or Scandinavian country?
hanke@feddit.nu · 50 pts · 42d
We don't want that here either.
A 9° increase will fuck us and our surroundings over just as well as anywhere else.

Meh, just bring it to Spain, it can't get any worse. We'll be wearing hazmat suits with portable AC units soon.

I was thinking we put one massive data center on Greenland to thaw out the ice sheet.
ChicoSuave@lemmy.world · 25 pts · 42d
Mr president, that you?
EvergreenGuru@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 42d
You know, they love me in Greenland. I showed up, I said, “This place isn’t very green.” But then we installed the data center, melted all the ice. We sprayed some Brawdo. We wanted to give the plants 🌱 a head start, so we sprayed it. Our secretary of agriculture told me it would work and it has. We sprayed it. I’m thankful for our agriculture department and the Brawndo company. Since we sprayed it, the country of Greenland has never been greener. I think they’re very grateful and we hope to get a lot of Greenland votes in the next election.

That area is reserved for the seed vaults
EvergreenGuru@lemmy.world · -10 pts · 42d
But the vault shifts with the ice 🧊? Soon all the seeds will float away… 🏝️
MrNesser@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 42d
Seed vaults are built into bedrock
EvergreenGuru@lemmy.world · -7 pts · 42d
Then why do they shift with ice melt?
stenAanden@feddit.dk · 0 pts · 42d
YUP. We have that here.
