Let me squint really hard and pretend Mamdani is president.

With the amount of scrutiny he's under, he may as well be. All the criticism meant for the president is being pushed to a city mayor.

Mamdani may be a "city mayor", but NYC is larger, population wise, than many small countries. Paraguay has less population, and still gets its own World Cup soccer team....

You’ll have to squint pretty hard. The president is a fat piece of shit with orange skin and a haircut from the muppets. Don’t hurt your eyes, friend.

Yeah but none of that is a requirement to be president. Nor is being a felon or pedophile

Glorious!

At least feces is useful.

I suspect if the Democrats move left with the popularity of the DSA, it won’t be long before they start pushing to allow foreign-born citizens to run for presiden

It baffles me that people can spend most of their lives in this country but not be considered bona-fide citizens.

Remember folks, he's a fucking MAYOR. He shouldn't be making national news every day, but he is. They're trying to turn him into a pariah. Don't let them.

Cethin@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 40d

They're trying to turn him into a pariah, but I think they're only effectively turning him into a symbol of hope. I'm fine with him making national news everyday. It's having the same effect that it had when Trump ran the first time. They wanted it to be negative, but it instead spread the message. They haven't learned any lessons. Luckily, this time, it's good.

If he plays this right it can turn him into an icon and complete up end the Democratic party. Im pretty sure he knows his under a bigger microscope than Trump

They may be trying, but someone is succeeding in turning him into someone I’d rather elect for national office

Dogiedog64@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 31d

He is, rather ironically, best suited for local office. Due to the size of NYC, and his fervor for leading it, he has more power there than as the head of many states. He can shape national policy, and remind the world that better things are indeed possible, all while staying a mayor.

I assume his speech will be one remembered, honoring the USA.

I expect him to draw a bigger and more cheerful audience than Trump.
