Yeah, like trump ever pays a bill

C'mon donny, pay up. You've got so much pocket grift, Shirley $5m is nothing to you.

Fribbizz@feddit.org · 4 pts · 54d (1 reply)

I don't think it's about being able to afford it. More that he is loath to let her have anything at all on principle.

Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io · 2 pts · 53d

For me it more about the fact that if a court found that you or I were guilty and had to pay a fine, we'd have no choice but to pay that fine. The law has to apply to everyone, equally.

ryper@lemmy.ca · 36 pts · 55d

"Must"? Yeah right. If he's not going to get locked up for not paying he'll just keep not paying.

$5 million shouldn't be a problem for him since the reported $1-2 billion he reportedly earned with crypto scams.

Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 54d

2.2 billion in the first year

Kind of sad that sexually abusing someone is only "worth" $5 million. I feel like that's not enough to compensate someone for something so horrible. Especially now that it has global attention

AbsolutelyClawless@piefed.social · 8 pts · 54d

I get it and I absolutely agree with you. He and his ilk should be rotting behind bars. But as someone who was sexually abused and still has nightmares years and years later, I'd gladly take that $5 million instead of absolutely nothing but permanent trauma.

If the penalty for a crime is a fine, then that law only exists for the lower class.

bridgeburner@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 54d

We really need wealth-based percentage fines.

CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 54d

Agreed. Something like this would be the financial end for most people. The penalty for Donvict should be set accordingly.

musicalphysics@discuss.online · 3 pts · 54d (2 replies)

The total judgment is like $83 million. This is just part.

CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 54d (1 reply)

There should be some extra amount added for inflation, for late fees, for having her name plastered all over headlines, and so on.

musicalphysics@discuss.online · 2 pts · 53d

Good news then, the award does earn interest while under appeal. Trump had to post a bond for the award plus interest accounting for appeal time. I don’t remember exactly how long they prepaid. The award doesn’t include extra for the other stuff though.

BillyClark@piefed.social · 14 pts · 55d

According to Glen Kirshner, Trump defamed Carroll again when he responded to this story. He said he didn't know her, which is apparently the same thing he said before and already lost a defamation lawsuit over.

WanderWisley@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 54d (4 replies)

Spoiler alert: he won’t pay…

prenatal_confusion@feddit.org · 5 pts · 54d (2 replies)

How can he avoid it now? He can just not pay and nobody would do anything but legally he is out of recourse, no?

Cort@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 54d (1 reply)

I'm guessing if it comes down to it the court could order banks with accounts in Trump's name to make the payments

Omgpwnies@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 54d

Others have said the money is in an escrow account, but if that weren't the case, the court can also essentially order his physical property to be seized up to the value owed. Like, literally walk into mar-a-lago and start taking chairs and paintings and shit.

littlewonder@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 54d

It's in escrow so it's not up to Trump this time.

Bwaz@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 54d (1 reply)

He makes way more than that in any of his daily scams.

CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 54d

Came here to say this.

Even if he were to just use the interest from a HYSA on the 2 billion he made in 2025, if I did the math properly, he could make 5 million in 28 days.

It's just him being prideful and petty to fight this. The money means next to nothing to him.

RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 54d

.00125 of the wealth trump has grifted since he took office.

melsaskca@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 54d

E. Jean should have said..."Remove the tarp and I'll knock off $250,000.00."

Aatube@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 54d

that photo tho

Feathercrown@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 54d

Isn't it technically that he has already paid, and the escrow account must now transfer the money to her?

JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 52d

Can the onion do to him what they did to that other fuckface?
