Hey, if KDE does it for you, just use it. I switch between xfce4 and i3 depending on what i'm doing. When coding or managing network devices, I3 it my way to go. Browsing, email, documenting : xfce4.

For the the first couple of fittings, i'd say yes. The pump will give some vibration, soldered joints will break rather quick (weeks) so compression or old fashioned hemp and paste with threaded joints. Further down the road there are a few soldered joints
It does not speed up getting hot water, it reduces losses. Quite a bit (nearly all of it) runs under the floors through unheated area's. Think 6..15 degrees Celsius. Over 10 Meters (probably more) it will cool down quite a bit before hitting the tap and you want it hot (over 68 celsius or cold, below 18) to avoid the legionella bacteria. The tap is designed to avoid accidental burn by hot water
Not that I'm aware of. It's still common practice. The problem is with water standing still over a period of time (if i remember well, over a week) end especially dead ends. I got rid of the dead ends and the waterheater is set to 70 degrees celcius. That ought to do it.
edit: the well gives water at 6 degrees which is well below 18, so i'm good there too)
It pays off having cleaned up the whole area so I had room to move and place stuff

I always used some regular wrenches in the past, but bought pipe wrenches a while ago just because I liked them. Pipe wrenches are absolutely worth it
Water would be off for hours, so I had:
filled the water kettle and coffee machine
20 Liter Jerrycan with water to drink/cook,
10 liter bucket to wash my hands before breaks,
10 liter bucket to rinse/clean stuff,
small bucket to go and get rainwater to flush the toilet.
Take breaks. It's (probably) not your day job, you grow tired quick.
A vacuum that can suck up water is easier than a mop (also much more expensive so if you're not doing a lot of DIY see if you can rent/loan one)
Buy more than you need (keep receipt to return what's left) to avoid having to go to the store in the middle of your job and maybe even find out the part you need is sold out.
Install valves to close off different sections separately. super convenient in maintenance and with problems. I can isolate

Plan in which order to work, whatever you need to have going first. (I wanted water to the bathroom first so we can wash ourselves and use the toilet. There you can also get water to drink cook etc etc.) This is also where valves come in handy. Once the valves are there, you can open up the water supply. So the bathroom had cold water while I was still working on connecting the kitchen, the cellar and installing/connecting the water heater.

As far as I know they are quite maintenance-free, and did not notice anything needing attention or love
Did you have to reprime the pump?
Out of curiosity I took out the primer bolt and had a look. There is a back-valve so there is no need for that. Priming is no big deal. Make sure the system is not pressurized (you don't want the bolt being shot into your face, nor flood the floor). Take out the bolt, fill with water to the brim, replace the bolt and you're good to go.
