I have weirdo trying to say I made a bomb threat to flag the auto-mod system. Besides blocking him, what do you think is the best way to avoid stalking? I'd prefer to stay on the platform and not let gross dudes like that win by silencing me. I'm pretty sure it's just a random teenager from Australia. I mostly talk about animals and welfare on my account.
Edit: my account history is my evidence.

You can make a new account (possibly on a different instance) and make sure it doesn't have any connections to your current account

Yeah, I think this is the best advice. Already reported and blocked.

Feels like giving the stalker what they want. Why does OP have to erase their identity here just because of some asshole?

I didn't say they have to do it; I'm just sharing what I would do.
I consider my Lemmy identity basically disposable so it wouldn't be a very drastic move for me. It's not like we have followers or karma or anything on here aside from a comment history.
What's your idea?

Sure. I didnt mean 'have to' as in you forcing OP, more like in a general sense, 'why do people using despicable methods get what they want'.

Gather evidence, talk to the admins of your instance, and the admins of the instance of the abuser. The best option is to get their account banned or at least blocked at the instance level
Of course, don't engage with them, it might be best just to block them and they'll get bored and go away

+1 for “contact admins.”
This isn’t Reddit, they are human beings you can reach.
Don’t let the stalker “win” by switching accounts. If you do that, just do it temporarily; they’ll get bored after a while. Then come back to this account.

Make a new account. Easy.

As a last measure, yeah. But people shouldn't be forced to give up their accounts just because other people are assholes.
cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 50d
That's far but honestly what is the solution? They know your handle. They can just make a new account and do the same thing if they're blocked...

Logging IPs and, depending on country, go for the regulatory way.
That is of course a bit more difficult on platforms like lemmy.

Block him and Mod report seems your only options
Chezus9247@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 51d
I'd probably just ignore him and move on. If he keeps bugging you, maybe try asking admins of your instance for help?

Why does this person need to prove they’re being harassed? Especially when they’re not even calling out the specific user.
davel@lemmy.ml · -2 pts · 51d
They don’t have to prove it, and I don’t have to believe it without evidence.
idiomaddict@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 50d
Why does your belief matter here?
davel@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 50d
Because crybullying & swatting are a thing, so as a lemmy.ml admin, I’m not going to take moderation actions based on unsubstantiated claims.

As an admin, you should probably work on understanding the difference between someone asking the community for advice and someone reaching out to you directly as an admin.
idiomaddict@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 50d
Nobody asked for you to do that, they asked for your advice, which you provided.
