Why do toilet paper companies go so heavy on linking tp to cotton?

I legit had to stop myself a sec ago when I caught myself thinking toilet paper was made of or contained any amount of cotton.

Damn them!

I think they might've meant Tulle, the fabric, which can be extremely scratchy.

Tool fabric, its a horrible texture that nobody would want to associate with TP, whole brushed cotton is super soft.

Personally I always wondered why the obsession with thicker and thicker paper ?

Double-ply is better than single, yes, but there is a point of diminishing return where it gets so rigid it's difficult to actually wipe with it...
