"Make yourself at home" is a polite phrase used to make visitors feel welcome. This guy took it a bit too literal and immediately made use of the dude's bed for some quality phone-time, as that is presumably what he would've done had he been at his own home.

At least his wife wasn't in bed.

justme@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 7 pts · 36d

that would have been the icing on the joke!

jaybone@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 36d

She left him because she was sick of his friends trying to get into bed with her.

I actually like it when people make themselves this comfortable in my home. It does require that I tell people very literally that if they're uncomfortable and there's something I can do to fix it, to please tell me.

When I have a guest I want them to enjoy themselves, and if they're more of an introvert and would prefer to hop in the guest bed and do phone time, that's totally okay.

I love it when guests are this comfortable because it means I don't have to tend to them and interact with them 24 hours a day.

That too!

I am very uncomfortable with and uncertain of most people, especially those who are new to me. Even if I like them, which I usually do.

A year and change ago, my wife made friends with a new family. They've become very close. I haven't spent as much time with them as she has, but so far as I can tell they all seem pretty great.

One of the first times I encountered them other than by proxy, the mom and one of the kids came by and almost immediately settled down on one of our couches. My wife and kid spent a bit of time chatting with them, then wandered off. The mom maintained her position on the couch and I stayed in the room because I learned what few social graces I have from my mom, who never would have forgiven me for abandoning a guest. Though our guest was never rude to me, it became clear that she just wanted to idle and didn't require engagement.

I'm genuinely glad she was comfortable here but it still seems odd to me to come to a friend's house to be alone.
