For a newly created community which book genre should be best for starters?

For a newly created bookish social media, which genre you will propose to push more?

If you are going to be the main poster initially and for the foreseeable future, probably a genre you are interested in.

I'd also suggest making the post in the new/niche community and then cross post it into a more general/main/popular community (ex. Books).

Good luck on your new community :)

I don't see a need to "push" a genre, if this is a general book discussing community.

Go with "whatever you enjoy reading about" and that should do it.

I personally enjoy science fiction and fantasy fiction. Currently reading forgotten realms fantasy.

Agreed. I think it should be broken down by pacing, if anything. I think books that meander could be considered for folks with more experience, where books that seem to go, go, go could help newer readers get into reading.

I wouldn't recommend the Wheel of Time to someone starting out. But Run by Blake Crouch, or Dungeon Crawler Carl can be great ways to get someone into reading/listening.

Has to be something you care about. Starting a community is a lot of effort so you'll need a definite interest in the subject.

Might I suggest my two favourite genres: sci-fi and fantasy.

Last Friday would have been the 95th anniversary of my favourite author, who successfully merged the two genres with her Saga of Pliocene Exile books: Julian May. She also found success with the linked Galactic Milieu books which, with the SPE series, totalled eight (nine in the US) of the best novels I have ever read; it also incorporated an incredible whodunit within the GM books.
