My mother's acquaintance/friend visited our house and she gave me a couple of teabags with the brand Alokozay. I opened the 100% pure Ceylon tea one first. It smelled quite unique when I opened the foil so I was a little hesitant on drinking it, but when I tried it I actually liked it? I think it has what people would call a herbal or medicinal taste. The last time I tried Ceylon tea it had some hints of this taste but this one was more intense. I actually like it.
Also, if any of you know of some other brands with more of this taste, lemme know. I'm fine with loose leaf or teabags.

I don't remember but I definitely don't enjoy Ceylon tea. Same with the "British breakfast mix" which tastes like burnt bread.

I definitely don't perceive Ceylon tea as having some other notes than other black teas. And by looking at the page of that brand I would rather expect it to be bland than something fancy
But it might be that we are just from different parts of the world and our tastes are just different.
Or you were given tea as medicine when you were young
As for searching for the taste, definitely try ordering some loose leafs. Generally in teabags the tea often is of the lowest quality

I have been into tea since the pandemic and I'm already aware of tea quality and loose tea. However, the people who know me, directly or indirectly know that I like tea, so whenever they get a hold of some they would give them to me, it's just that they usually bring teabags.
I had tasted lots of bagged tea, in between some of my "fancier tea" when I was only a highschool student who didn't have their own money, and there can still be a huge difference of quality depending on the brand. Some bagged green tea brands f.e. are very astringent and some are savoury with minimal bitterness. Yes, I have used non-boiling water on them, it comes from my experience with (loose) steamed tea like sencha and gyokuro, but some teas just cannot be saved, that's how I know what lowest quality is. There is still a spectrum of quality.
Anyway, speaking of loose tea... Nope, they're not safe from being bland. That's why I was asking for some specific recommendations if you have any experience with that taste. For example, my first shou puerh tea, though not "bad", was just bland. It tastes what you'd expect from puerh but doesn't have any outstanding quality.
