Have parents tried supervising their fucking kids?

pHr34kY@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 33d

It's not about children. They say it's about children, but it has never been about children.

auzy1@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 32d

Have you been on Facebook? A lot of adults need supervision at this point.

Europe: the web will need age verification. This will not* be identity verification, and the police won’t* be able to look up the ID of any online post

Australia: yeah nah, online anonymity is now illegal

To "protect children". Uhuh. Sure

Interesting that this is suddenly a massive priority for centrist parties amid a rising tide in fascism, as though their job is merely to institute draconian social controls for someone even worse to abuse.

If only the 'centrist' parties would actually move to the centre 🙁

Well this is shit.. think it's time to write in to state MPs about the gross loss of privacy in the Trojan of "protecting children"

Facebook is no longer properly moderating their platform

Let's stop pretending like there isn't constant incitement laws being broken, abusive behavior and constant racism.

What were they expecting? Normalizing criminal behavior and giving meta a hall pass because they're a large company?

This isn't a "gross loss of privacy". That's total BS. It's a private service which is responsible for a shitload of criminal issues. I'm not even talking civil / freedom of speech. There are constant witchhunts and abuse happening on it. I've seen so many ACTUAL violent threats against people too.

So, if any social media asks you to give more of your personal data than just an email address and/or a phone number, then you don't need this social media in first place.

A tribunal? Not even a court? Bruh

Facebook is literally full of people inciting others to break laws breaking laws and Facebook refuses to remove anything. Even violent incitement I'm seeing

Truckies in particular are abusing Indians and the amount of racism all over has gotten excessive. It's not uncommon to even see subtle violent incitement

It's an unpopular opinion, but this is definitely a good thing.

I'm tired of getting ignored by Facebook because some a-hole has told others to ignore a law and incited hate towards various groups of people.

These are actual laws being broken and it would be good to have more powers to enforce them, because Facebook are profiting from abusive people.

Yes, stochastic terrorism is a real tactic for violence, and Facebook is one of the social media platforms enabling it.

For what it's worth, I managed to get rid of FB around 5-10 years ago (apart from recently creating a false identity sockpuppet recently due to That One Messenger Group you just can't move off the site!) and it's a small but sure weight off shoulders. That and Twitter are two of the worst mainstream sites, life is better without them at this point.
