No thanks, it wasn't that important.

No such thing as “free” on the Internet

NetZero taught me that lesson back in the 90s

the_grass_trainer@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 35d (3 replies)

Blender 3D is free. So HAH!

homes@piefed.world · 1 pts · 35d (2 replies)

like all FOSS projects, the Blender Project is user- and developer-supported.

nothing is "free"

Amdouni@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 34d

Kind of free for the end user tho

Ziglin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 34d

The FOSS acronym starts with free (as in speech).

Obviously development takes time but payment for that time is usually done as a sort of solidarity based system if the developer(s) want money.

HuePony@lemmy.ml · 9 pts · 35d

Torrents are free

Luccus@feddit.org · 8 pts · 35d

There's actually a lot of free stuff out there.

Many blogs simply serve as a creative outlet for their authors. And there are plenty of tools that someone developed, others improved, and that still others put online, just because. And then there are a lot of peoples pet projects anyone can enjoy. All for free, because the only thing nicer that creating stuff is sharing that stuff.

There are just also a bunch of assholes.

Advanced Ip scanner is free.

Linux distros?

I get your point though.

homes@piefed.world · -7 pts · 34d

Yes, your point made 25+ years later is very cutting

Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it · 1 pts · 34d (4 replies)

There is a lot of free stuff both free as in beer and free as in speech

homes@piefed.world · 1 pts · 34d (3 replies)

Enjoy all those ads

Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it · 0 pts · 34d (2 replies)

I never saw ads on the debian website, kernel.org, blender, codeberg, uBlock, fmhy.net etc etc

You just don't know where to look

homes@piefed.world · 0 pts · 34d (1 reply)

Why would I be so stupid as to go looking for ads? Is your brain broken?

Obviously, you’re blocked

Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it · 2 pts · 34d

I never said to look for ads, can you read?

village604@adultswim.fan · 7 pts · 35d (4 replies)

VPN + email alias + bogus PII.

Autodesk thinks I'm Bob Barker.

Grail@multiverse.soulism.net · 4 pts · 34d

If they just want an email address, I like to put in president@whitehouse.gov

thermal_shock@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 34d (2 replies)

I've got a spreadsheet of fake accounts I use, has dobs, cities, etc. entirely fake people.

Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it · 1 pts · 34d

I feel like i should do the same

kossa@feddit.org · 1 pts · 34d

One day you wake up and don't know which is the real you 👻

Landless2029@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 34d (4 replies)

SharkMail or other throwaway mail service.

LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 34d (3 replies)

I have to use a Mac for work and stumbled across the fact that apparently you can create as many fake emails as you want to hide your email address when signing up for services, then I realized they were essentially just aliases because all the emails just forward to your actual email address until you delete the alias. I suppose it would make it easy to filter them to another folder though. It's part of their private relay feature for iCloud.

Overall mildly helpful I suppose.

Snowcano@startrek.website · 1 pts · 34d (2 replies)

Yeah it’s not terrible, I just wish you could send from them as well.

SaraTonin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 34d

You can, it’s just a bit of a faff

LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 34d

I haven't tried but Google seems to claim you can change the front field from the Apple mail app or iCloud.com but you can't if you do it from the Gmail or yahoo etc app because it doesnt know they exist. If you end up trying it let me know if it works.

Recently looking for a free DAW to try out on a windows mini PC as I haven't had access to a non work windows computer in years, cakewalk downloads a downloader then create an account to download, waveform create an account to download. Not sure what else is our there but I think it's going to be audacity+ffmeg since it actually has real downloads without an account.

SaraTonin@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 34d

Reaper. Technically not free, but you get 2 months fully-functional for free and, after the trial ends…it remains fully-functional just with a nag screen that you dismiss with one click

It doesn’t look fancy and there’s a bit of a learning curve, but it’s incredibly powerful and when you feel guilty enough to pay it’s also incredibly cheap (and a one-time purchase)

jayands@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 34d

Check out LMMS, maybe. Depending on your needs.

Luffy879@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 34d

Ardour maybe?

Personally only used to record and edit vinyls when my Gentoo had a hefty memory leak (I'm talking filling up 0.5 GB per second) with its self compiled audacity, but it seems like a more professional version of audacity

MalMen@masto.pt · 4 pts · 35d

@Mickey7 maybe its on #thepiratebay and I can get some malware as well
