What an odd way to say "America started a drone war without enough weapons to intercept drones."

a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world · 36 pts · 21d (15 replies)

Haigseth is basically coming out and admitting that they've blown through the vast majority of our weaponry (in front of Congress, which is hilarious).

IndustryStandard@lemmy.world · 22 pts · 21d (2 replies)

"We wasted 40 billion dollars. Please give me 80 billion more".

a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 20d (1 reply)

Essentially, but the subtext is a bunch of righteous indignation from somebody who couldn't spell the phrase.

socsa@piefed.social · 5 pts · 20d

How dare you correctly point out that I'm an idiot!

DanceMomsSavedMe@lemmy.zip · 7 pts · 21d

What's not hilarious is that they don't do shit about it. Ever.

rezad@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 21d (10 replies)

source? I only saw him beg( threaten) for money and not give even estimates.

a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 21d (9 replies)

Probably the same things you watched. He very literally complained that they were just about out of munitions and that was why he was there begging for money. He keeps whining that our national safety is at risk because of their dumb asses.

Abyssian@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 21d (3 replies)

Come on Denmark, now's the time to invade the US.

corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca · 8 pts · 21d (2 replies)

Hey! That's OUR thing! 🇨🇦

a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 20d

Look, as a representative of the United States I'm just going to put out there that we will welcome an entire coalition of friends to invade us and set us free.

Abyssian@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 20d

Denmark, Greenland, Canada, Cuba, Spain, Venezuela, Mexico...

Fuck, I was trying to list places that jackass had threatened recently and had to stop because beating the shit out of the US should be pretty much everyone's thing at the moment.

rezad@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 20d (4 replies)

when I watch US politician whining about strength of for example my country (Iran) or Russia, it usually is for begging for money form congress.

so they have a habit of exaggerating the issue by a lot.

so when he says "they’ve blown through the vast majority of our weaponry" what he means is that stocks of them is 20 percent depleted.

a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 20d (2 replies)

If shit hits the fan 20% is a rather significant amount though. Especially at the rate we're going through them because literally all they seem to care about right now is bombing the shit out of other countries. And the cost for that much munition is absolutely astounding.

Either way the whole thing is absolutely deranged. We have zero business running around kidnapping world leaders, threatening to annex other countries, and starting wars indiscriminately.

Mirshe@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 20d (1 reply)

And we look to be wanting to do more. We keep threatening Greenland, Rubio just put out a report that basically looks like an invasion plan for Cuba, I'm interested in whether they're trying to put together some sort of plausible sounding casus belli against Mexico or Canada too.

a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 20d

If he's idiots have their way we're going to burn through every last missile.

And we're going to fire them at people who are not currently firing at us. Just because.

CADmonkey@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 19d

Its bigger than how many missiles we have left, its how fast can we manufacture replacements? What parts are unavailable now?

yesman@lemmy.world · 33 pts · 21d (2 replies)

Anybody with a passing interest in modern military could have told you this. You don't want to use an interceptor worth $2m to shoot down a drone that costs tens of thousands, unless it's heading for something vital. Remember too that an interceptor system can't just be purchased in unlimited quantities, so in the short term a fired missile is one less you have for tomorrows threats.

Ukraine and Russia have been doing this math every day for like 5 years.

Blade9732@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 21d (1 reply)

It's almost like they should have been working with and learning from Ukraine this whole time. I guess they will blame all this on Biden.

SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social · 4 pts · 20d

Of course it's Biden's fault. He started that fucking war with Iran 😭😭

KnitWit@lemmy.world · 29 pts · 21d

‘I let you score that goal’

BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 21d

Not like this info should be suppressed, but now I'm guessing Iran will just send more drones without payloads to save on their munitions.

aarch0x40@piefed.social · 9 pts · 21d

We can’t retaliate if they don’t hit anything.

bitjunkie@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 21d (1 reply)

I could see Trump and Hegseth letting more service members die to stoke public outrage against Iran in the runup to midterms. It won't work, mind you, but I could see them doing it.

Pogogunner@sopuli.xyz · 13 pts · 21d

Independents are more likely to see the deaths as Trumps fault. The legacy of the Iraq war runs deep, Americans do not want to have troops in the middle east.

foggy@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 21d

Wouldnt want your opposition to feel too bad, right?

The fuck is this headline?

First_Thunder@lemmy.zip · 7 pts · 21d (1 reply)

My bad guys, I was always bad with managing ammo in game

socsa@piefed.social · 4 pts · 20d

Hegseth just didn't realize that if you reload while the mag is half full you actually lose that ammo. Easy mistake.

cy888@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 21d

I have no problems with this.
