So some bank decides what obscenity is? And there is no appeal process or reason stated to be appealed, just "we refunded them because we disagree with the transaction". Tyranny in a suit.

this just made me more and more angry as I kept reading. Like, what is the solution when this happens? Who does the developer contact to try and get this resolved?

nobody, you have to sue the bank for withholding due services

Crypto?

Or monero? I think?
But good luck trying to convince your average gooner to use crypto or monero

Monero would make sense specifically (privacy and all)

In this case that wouldn't even be required, because what is being blocked here is a transfer between the publisher and the developer.

Don’t be silly, I’ve been assured by multiple mobs on Lemmy that crypto is a scam and serves no legitimate purpose than eating electricity and facilitating scams.

Unfortunately liberals and leftist have mostly black marked it as a tech, so their has been little effort to fix those parts equability (not entirely but finding a way to make currency something controlled by the plurality of people of the world and with the features you expect from that is for some reason a niche interest in those circles).

It's so bad.. If the thing being sold is legal then the payment processors and banks should have no say in it.

This has been an issue for Japanese adult game developers for a while now. Here's an article from the same site from 1.5 years earlier that provides a bit more context. It seems like there's either confusion or perhaps malicious misinterpretation of Japanese laws going on.
I wonder if they could somehow open a bank account in the US or somewhere else outside Japan, get the proceeds from their games sent there, and then transfer from one bank to another, or as a last resort even going in person and transporting the cash by hand.
