I see this all the time in Elden Ring. So many players want the word "Knight" in their name but it just ends up rendering as "K***ht". Also the substring "ho" comes up a lot and is censored.
Took me a very long time to understand why my go to, Scooter, was being blocked... extra harsh filter catching "cooter" was the culprit. Only discovered because something just * the string so my name was S******
In October 2004, it was reported that the Horniman Museum in London was failing to receive some of its email because filters mistakenly treated its name as a version of the words horny man.
Where I live, there used to be an Officer Gay in our police. He retired a while ago, but just imagine the possibilities. There was graffiti. Soo much graffiti.
Like, this was a legitimate word, once, used for names and such.
Fun fact, Google, Google Maps and Wikipedia all existed in 2010. All they had to do was spend an entire 10 seconds, less than the time it took to suspend the account, to find out it was a genuine location.
They knew it was a real place. They knew the filter would ban people based on real, actual names. They also knew making the filter better would cost more money than getting sued a few times.
A lot of events like this not this one but a lot boil down to English centrism like that Shiitake issue or the Quebec website who went by the acronym cum.
Yeah I remember playing Fortnite back in high school and asking a friend if he could play via the in game chat. The problem was that I wrote "Kunt ge?" so the whole thing got censored

Buttbuttinate sounds like one of those stupid censored words like unalive, grape...

Can also do this with buzzwords the media likes to use, like the "cloud to butt" extension, or force to horse
In the current headline writing about politics, I'd love to se a "slammed to fondled" one

Two or three services blacklisted something in my username, Lyra Lycan. To this day I never found out what, why or which language

The current future outlook of the internet is bleak. Everything will be controlled by a dozen companies and all content must be appropriate for teens

That’s an absurd word to ban in a swear filter anyway.

This reminds me of the recent removal of the Enola Gay in US government history archives because LGBT+ is DEI.
Forgetting that gay not only has multiple meanings, but only predominately referred to homosexuality in the 1980s.
I remember looking it up as a kid. 1970s era dictionaries did not include the present definition.
