They knew it was a real place. They knew the filter would ban people based on real, actual names. They also knew making the filter better would cost more money than getting sued a few times.

Yeah I think many of them are also listed as part of a larger archeological site and not individual buildings. The palace of the Inca at Machu Picchu doesn't have its own page on wikipedia.

For most ruins I fear they are not listed online anywhere at all

Edit: maybe turning it around and going with OSM data first and then linking the sites to wikipedia is more effective? OSM has pretty good searchable databases of archeological sites and individual buildings. The royal palace is listed as a "manor house" in close proximity to the "tourist attraction and archeological site" of Machu Picchu

I dont think so. The hobbit+lord of the rings are "Tolkien's translation of the red book written by Bilbo and Frodo into English" (not a direct quote). Middle earth is our earth and our history.

I don't think he said "its real bro trust me" like the book of Mormon, but "its real in a fictional real world"

did data entry for 2 months during a break from uni. It fried my brain. I was bored to shit and came home with a headache each day. I was so glad when I was done digitising all documents and was allowed to do some light programming instead.

German also has a few other interesting ones that refer to actually real places.

  • Buxtehude (small town near Hamburg)
  • Timbuktu (ancient town in the Sahara)
  • Pampa (grassland in agentinia)

The last one makes historical sence since many Germans migrated to that region of south America in the 1800, and then more Germans got replaced in the soviet union and moved there and then many Nazis fled there after the surrender. So its just a synonym for a place very far away. Not sure where the rest come from

I hate what AI has done. This is cute and I want to like it but I just can not shake the feeling that it is AI. Even with the linked author. There are so many wierd things with perspective in this image

Its not about the things depicted but about the art style. It is primarily uses by giant corporations to appear "hip" and "modern". You will see it on the PowerPoint slides talking about the company values and his nice they are as a workplace. You see it when you open Microsoft teams and it tells you about "the new features to connect with your team".

It is hollow and soulless. It literally lacks any depth both in meaning and the very colours. It is through and through corporate

Pretty good litmus test on whether they're good musicians or just corporate karaoke.

Is a book of short stories or poems not art, just because it is not a monolithic novel.

An Album with 10 independent songs can still be a fully artistic package. Maybe each song is ment to be experience on it's own. Maybe the art form is to deliver a succinct and complete piece in 3-5 minutes?

Every year the forests get smaller and more fragmented. More land gets turned into lawns, and fields or covered with concrete. The air and the ground water gets poisoned. The native plants replaced by invasives.

Most likely, there are just fewer deer.
