It was always highly selective. There were always those that were above the law, and unlikely to ever face consequences no matter what crimes they committed.

The difference is that the corruption of the oligarchy has expanded in scale and scope. That's what happens when criminals are not held accountable.

Good, I hope they investigate and hold these people accountable. If we just roll our eyes and say “large corporations be like that” then it normalizes it.
