A study from Princeton and Northwestern Universities concludes that U.S. political policy is determined by the economic elite, not the majority of citizens.
This is what .world and .works are fighting to keep in place, with their rabid anti* communism.
This is what racism and anticommunism, anti LGBTQ are fighting to preserve and send to poorest to die to achieve and expand it.

This is true, but also this study was from 2014
Maeve@kbin.earth · 26 pts · 34d
It's more relevant, today.
jballs@sh.itjust.works · 18 pts · 34d
And even then, it was looking at the time period between 1981 and 2002, before Citizens United kicked things into overdrive.

Yep - Heritage Foundation. Started in ‘73 by rich creeps (Paul Weyrich, Edwin Feulner, and Joseph Coors (yes the beer Coors)) who began to see the real fruits of their investment with Reagan.

That's just sad

Fully agree with the conclusion of the study.
I am baffled at why you felt the need to attempt to start an instance beef, though. Really feels like you’re painting with far too broad of a brush - not to mention, instance beefs entirely distract from the (very valid and salient) point being made in the article.

Kindly take that instance beef nonsense back to subreddit drama. There's a wide diversity of opinions on the larger instances. Not everyone's a liberal.
LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 34d
Not to mention that even most liberals on Lemmy would probably agree this is a problem.
P00ptart@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 34d
Yeah no. Keep that instance fight for other people. Here we agree to such a large degree that instance fighting does more harm than good.

I’m not trying to keep this shit government in place, I’m a communist who thinks the abolition of currency is a fine starting point.
chaogomu@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 34d
No need to get rid of currency. Not at first, it's too useful in daily life.
Just get rid of the harmful parts, like 99% of the stock market and private equity and charging people for healthcare or housing.

I'm with you, money is the root of all evil
Maeve@kbin.earth · 1 pts · 33d
Money is a tool. The lust of money is the root of all evil.
thethrilloftime69@feddit.online · 2 pts · 33d
If we didn't have money there would be nothing to lust after.
Maeve@kbin.earth · 0 pts · 33d
I agree, and we also haven't laid the groundwork for a classless, moneyless society.
DarkCloud@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 34d
Ironic that Princeton is saying this. Being a wealthy school, are they pro or anti?
Maeve@kbin.earth · 7 pts · 34d
Just anti enough to give the thinnest veneer of humanitarianism.
Doomsider@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 34d
It was designed this way from the start. Examining the American Revolution from a critical lens reveals a very different story than what Americans are taught.
Maeve@kbin.earth · 2 pts · 34d
Exactly right.

From the federal government all the way down to local, corporations usually have their way.

What's ant communism? Ants are by definition communists...right?
Maeve@kbin.earth · 1 pts · 34d
Corrected, thanks.

Aw I thought rabid ants were going to take over the government

The liberals are entitled their misguided opinions, just like everybody else. The community is small enough without trying to divide it further.
Doomsider@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 34d
The ideals of liberalism aren't horrible until you realize that equality is a lie. Then you know they are just lip service for the ruling class.
