I was just mentioning this the other day. I thought the law was already in effect, but turns out that starting in Feb 2027, ALL portable devices, including ereaders, have to have batteries that are easy to change.

Devices must be designed so that consumers can easily remove and replace batteries using basic, commercially available tools, without needing specialized technical skills or heat-based adhesive removal.

There are exceptions for small devices, I believe smart watches, perv glasses and wireless earbuds are exempt. Not sure about wireless headphones and speakers.
I hope they'll continue with other electronics on batteries, like toothbrushes and trimmers etc.

It'd be nice if the legislation still affected those small devices but just had a lower threshold of requirement
