You know that those guys are telling their wives "see! It's important that I keep this armor ready for prime time! I never know what to expect!" Then spends all their time and money with upkeep
In HS my art teacher built a full suit of armor, because “that is the only way to get a full suit of armor that fits decently without spending a fortune.” I never looked it up to verify.
Anyone with that kind of motivation deserves their hobby 1,000,000%
My father-in-law is like that. He just picked up random hobbies and then becomes obsessed with them. He's never done Larping before as far as I'm aware but it was big into aerosoft at one point, so I could totally see him doing it.
Reminds me of the day we were sitting in a reenactment camp at morning next to a church with a wedding going on. Their photographer had the bright idea to let the pair pose in our camp. They asked permission so that was fine.
So they sat down at our breakfast table (with all the clutter still around) and the photographer asked them to pick up our mugs to pose with them and of course they started slamming together the mugs just as you may know this from exaggerated Hollywood scenes.
These mugs were not empty and had mostly coffee and tea in them from our breakfast.

Of course, what would you have them use spears, axes, why settle for less than the best in close range medieval weaponry.

If this had actually happened in the middle ages they'd still be talking about it 800 years later.

The rest was a lesson in physics 🤷
