Campaign evolved is a fun mess

My brief overview on the new Campaign evolved. It's a good time, but doesn't give me faith for Halo Studios going forward.

If they can swing it in remaster like this, we need a dedicated “Halo Forge” game.

TBH that’s what Infinite should have been. The setting was perfect, and they had a sandbox.

Man, yea they had a layup with the name Halo Infinite as well.

Shame they did nothing with it

Good video. I am still on the fence as I mainly game on a Steam Deck and am not sure if it will handle it well.

It doesn’t. And the PC port is the least stable of the three.

it is atrocious. I can't believe this actually shipped.

Thank you!

Yea with it being Unreal, I doubt steam deck will run well.

Here's hoping for a potato mode?

I got the game for free from work and I still want my money back

Lmao have you played any of it yet?

vikingtons@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 44d (7 replies)

yeah, it's really rough. I took a copy for hw validation on both windows and linux. I regret offering to do so; it's really left a bad impression.

I've finished the main campaign just earlier today, I really don't want to delve into the three bonus missions but I may yet, just to satisfy the completionist tendencies I have.

I have an associate who works quite closely with the studio. He and his cohort filed hundreds of bug tickets prior to the game's release and they hadn't really acted upon any of it. I really do feel bad for them. Then again, the same was true for MCC and Infinite.

Man that's a shame. I went with PS5 despite being PC primarily. Wasn't sure it would work on Fedora.

Luckily it's pretty good on PS5 technically.

The story about bugs checks out though, apparently there was a ton of development turmoil once again including the game needing to be rescued from the original studio they outsourced it to.

It works fine on fedora fwiw. There's been some shader bugs but valve have eliminated them very quickly via updates to vkd3d in proton. Several others may be addressed at the umd level depending on tour gfx vendor. Performance is another matter, but I don't imagine it would swing much between windows and linux, though this will also likely depend on your gfx vendor.

I've heard the same; apparently they had to defer to Reach's blam under the hood and take it internal because the studio they contracted this project to sort of ran away with timelines?

Does have you wonder what could have been, but then I'm no fan of UE5, nor the mass consolidation of game engines into unreal.

obligatory fuck Pierre Hintze

Yea the reach blam part is absolutely wild and there are definitely areas you can see an AI trigger mess up or AI in general not knowing exactly what to do. Reloading fix it but yea there's some funky shit going on under the hood.

For fedora, it actually wasn't even graphics I was worried about, it was the stupid sign in bullshit they make you do. What a waste of time.

vikingtons@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 44d (3 replies)

Yeah, it's astounding how much the overall AI experience has regressed for both the covenant and flood.

That's a very good point, and on that note - the sign in is more seamless than it is for MCC / HI, though it links your MS account with your Steam one.

Toga77@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 44d

The MCC is still somewhat broken to this day.

I guess that really should be all we need to know about how much the brand really values Halo.
