Still think it'll be hilarious.
It's not a normal studio movie that compromises itself to get widespread appeal and make the most money possible.
They make movies that they think are hilarious.
For people with their sense of humor, they're awesome movies. For people with a different sense of humor; I hope someone that shares yours makes a movie geared directly at you and not compromised and focus grouped so that everyone mildly enjoys it but no one dislikes it.
We need to go back to making more movies, that are aimed directly at individual demographics.
This shit where everyone agrees on "movie of the year" because there's only a dozen movies a year by 2 studios is tired.

The first one was lightning in a bottle. After that, they started making movies for themselves. I love that they took the Adam Sandler formula of making films with their pals. I love that for them and wish them happiness.

I know you mean super troopers (2001), but their first movie was 1996's Puddle Cruiser. Basically a PCU knockoff, but a major subplot is Rugby
A couple years after Super Troopers took off, they did a dvd release of Puddle Cruisers, and it came out while I was in college playing rugby. And that is 99% of why I'm such a big fan, me and the guys I played with back then still quote parts of it to each other, to be fair we also do the "chips" chant from PCU too.
It's obviously their first movie, and obviously mid 90s, but it's the same core vibe as ST and all their other movies, the same humor.
I think the difference you're missing, is the first ST was the only one with production value and that makes it seem different.

The movie is worth watching, but honestly almost everyone who likes it, likes it because they played rugby

And you’re right, I mean that it was the first Super Trooper film and their first film with a budget. Their humor with the gravitas of Cox and von Bargen meshed so well and hit at the right time.
I have similar nostalgia from watching repeatedly with friends.

I assumed that was notice enough that I didn't need to watch it.
