Was there even any hinting of Dumbeldores sexuality throughout the original series?

I'm not sure i associated any sexuality to him throughout the series, but that was years and years ago. Though I'm not sure i associated any sexuality to many characters in that series as there wasn't any mentioning of it.

Absolutely none. It’s retconned

It’s what JKR does when she gets called out. She retcons shit. Like the “how dare you call me antisemitic! I’ll have you know the unnamed guy in on page 54 is actually called Levi Jewishman” thing she did when people gave her side eye about the goblins.

She’s a fucking ghoul.

Also, he’s a Respectable Gay. He wears the diversity label, and perhaps could live with his husband and their two pedigree handbag dogs in an immaculately decorated apartment, though him being at all sexual is unimaginable.

Good to know that i didn't misread it that badly.

It was never mentioned because people aren't defined by their sexuality.

Whatever bits Dumbledore liked to touch his bits, none of that information is important.

There is the representation perspective, but overall i do agree. Oftentimes it's some completely irrelevant background detail.

Viceversa@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 21d

Representation per se shouldn't be the goal or priority. Otherwise the story would be crap.

She said that she always thought of him as gay in an interview after the last book came out in 2007. Never in the original books.

That makes more sense as i didn't really have enough internet back then to waste it on random interviews or news, neither do i really keep up with what authors say.

Though i am aware of her somewhat current takes as news do travel through people as well over time.
