That's a surprisingly apt description, though I've never seen them carrying weapons, other than those damn bells.

I wonder how many people donate who wouldn’t donate if they knew? I only found out a few years ago.

I used to do it. Not a lot of money since I rarely carry cash but I'd give them my bottle return vouchers when I went to meijer or Kroger

Make sure you look at the sign though, around here sometimes other people put out buckets than the Salvation Army.
