I need to finish Mina the Hollower - I'm at the final boss (I think), and I'm gradually whittling away the boss' health bar but I'm guessing there'll be multiple phases...
I've also been playing through Botany Manor. From what I can tell, I don't have much left of the game. But that's not a bad thing - it's been charming throughout and sometimes a short but sweet experience is exactly what you're after.
FFXII has been on my Steam wishlist for a while - I should give that a go sometime. The battle system sounds fascinating!
I don't know, I thought it was pretty neat to see. Especially considering it's such a rare event in the universe - that the moon happens to be the perfect size to cover the sun like that, and that we live in the period where eclipses are possible to see (if I remember correctly this won't always be the case on Earth?). The conditions were also perfect.
Hiked out to a field, had a beer and saw it through a pinhole. Was a nice little outing.
I read through All Systems Red by Martha Wells last weekend. Very fast-paced and fun! I've got the next couple of ebooks in the Murderbot series to read from a bundle, so I'm looking forward to that.
I've started On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong. Poetic, with some hauntingly beautiful imagery so far.
Somewhat furry adjacent, but I think the covers the Noss books are gorgeously illustrated. The second book in particular, which I'm hoping to read this year, is a favourite of mine:
This seems like a perfect game to play with someone else :) Maybe one of us will spot a clue that the other missed etc. We had a great time playing through The Witness together.
I don't think my partner really enjoys watching me play hard games, as it's usually me dying a bunch and doing the same sequence over and over xD
I picked up a copy of a book called Raft by Stephen Baxter a few years back, knowing nothing about it. It was a bizarre story involving a group of humans getting stuck in a universe where gravity is significantly stronger than our own. I remember there was this strange flesh planet made of dead bodies. Interesting concepts but not sure I'd recommend it!
Hmm my take on it is that nuclear war has taken place, and it's about how the house tragically keeps performing its duties not knowing that the human inhabitants are long dead.
And yes, automated tech exists in the world of this story but I don't see that as 'AI' any more than I'd view a teasmade (a kettle with a timer) as AI.
For the sake of argument say that the story did include some form of AI. I think AI in science fiction is actually quite interesting (especially stuff from several decades back) because it tends to have some nuance, and isn't the crappy LLM stuff that we're getting in real life. My understanding is that this community is more about how shitty LLMs are.
*edit - I think you updated your post to mention Skynet just after I responded, and that's exactly my point. That's an example of an ACTUALLY COOL concept of AI, and I think most people like those films

In what way is it about the dangers of AI though? If anything, it's about the dangers of nuclear war with the backdrop of a smart home falling apart
