I'm overqualified until I ask for a raise.

I'm objectively one of the best at a certain skill at my work, out of several hundred people. And I still catch myself thinking people are just being nice when they say as such. Imposter syndrome just never fully goes away; but I guess it gives me motivation to try and always best myself? Idk, it's sometimes exhausting and idk why I push myself. I guess I'm not trying to just "be the best", but rather be better than my previous self? I tire my own damn self

I was told so repeatedly in childhood, with the trauma it's difficult to reverse now, especially since it made me bully myself in my head for decades.

I feel like it's in society's (or at least the 'leaders') interest to make you think that so you never give yourself permission to take a break from everything

Always. It's not so much a thought as a wound in my psyche that will not heal no matter how I attempt to treat it.

Absolutely always, with every single activity, there's always that voice in the back of my head yelling. It's amongst the oldest companions in that skull of mine

"YOU CAN DO BETTER", "gid gud", "skill issue", "a fucking baby could do that", "it isn't that special" and pointing out every single detail i failed and could have done better.

Even objectively, if i fall short of some goal or basic activity, i wasn't good enough. It completely irrelevant how hard i tried, i just wasn't good enough.

It's probably one of the biggest reasons i hide away any attempts in new hobbies and struggle to paint minis, even though I've been doing that for a few+ years.

Basically I'm not even good or strong enough to win against the voice yelling me I'm not good enough, all i can do is just resist it and deny it it's victory.

I needed to hear this today. Not because of a job, but still. Thank you.

Not really anymore. Not for a while at least.

At some point you have to decide that you don't need to meet some nebulous standards of value for this and that.

If you actually try, then that's good enough. Hell, even not trying is fine too. We don't have to always be striving for everything and it's good to not really care about things that don't matter so much.
