This is great. I would however be very surprised if Xbox did try to step in like the author hints or hopes for. it would very much be against their best interests to support Linux and take away market share from Xbox and windows.

Since when does Microsoft care about (consumer) Windows?

They haven't. Not for a long time. Probably not since pre-XP and the convergence on the NT kernel. (Don't get me wrong, moving to the NT kernel was absolutely needed...but now, desktop functionality is "secondary")

As long as they sell Windows Server and Windows Pro/Enterprise, nothing of value is lost.

And the added GamePass subs probably also boosts Azures value, because I assume a lot of it runs on that infra.

No one uses Windows Server. Microslop's main source of revenue comes from Azure.

It's not too unusual, as subscription sales might be worth the risk if they figure the exclusively isn't keeping people on Windows/Xbox. And that's probably true, there's a ton of Windows users who haven't swapped for work reasons or because they want kernel level anti cheat, etc.

Plus aren't most of those games already available on Linux through Steam?

I don't want it, but I'm glad someone is doing it because apparently someone does.
