You want pics?

I have pics!

Not OP, but anybody can book a seat on a Zeppelin sightseeing flight in Germany. Most of them are in the 'Lake Constance'/Bodensee area around Friedrichshafen, where this photo was also taken. Where I live you can see them all the time in the air.

Did it have a bathroom on board?

stoy@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 16d

It does!

ikidd@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 16d (1 reply)

It's just a hatch that empties out the bottom.

DempstersBox@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 15d

Coming in for my bombing run!

Zombiepirate@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 16d (4 replies)

One of my goals in life is to fly in a dirigible. Hope you had fun!

stoy@lemmy.zip · 10 pts · 16d (3 replies)

I did indeed have fun.

Me and my dad took a trip down to Friedrichshafen, and took a flight on a Zeppelin NT airship.

Ot was damned expensive, but seeing as computer hardware just keeps getting more expensive, the airship ride of 90min cost only slightly less than two 8TB hard drives.

Zombiepirate@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 16d (2 replies)

Damn, maybe I can stow away on one.

stoy@lemmy.zip · 13 pts · 16d (1 reply)

Sadly I don't believe that is possible.

Everything about the airship makes it clear that it is a different concept than an airline.

Take boarding for example:

This is not done as an airplane.

We were on the first tour of the day, and the boarding process was a bit unusual, the passengers are grouped into pairs, they are then allowed to board two at a time.

This is done to allow the ground crew time to remove sacks of ballast from the ship as you are boarding.

Then on landing the process was slightly different yet again.

This time the ship exchanged passengers.

It worked like this, first two new pax came aboard, then two of us got off, and so on.

Don't light a cigarette amiright?

(Actually that looks like an unforgettable experience)

stoy@lemmy.zip · 11 pts · 16d

It is filled with helium, but the flight was still obviously non-smoking.

It was truly a brilliant experience, expensive as hell, but brilliant.

Don’t light a cigarette amiright?

Not since the incident!

toiletobserver@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 16d (1 reply)

sasquash@sopuli.xyz · 5 pts · 16d (1 reply)

At the Lake of Constance? I hope to do that too sometime but it's so expensive. Hope it was worth it and you had fun!

stoy@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 16d

It was indeed there, and it was brilliant!

Widdershins@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 16d (1 reply)

Did anybody not have a ticket?

stoy@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 15d

Well, the pilot and flight attendant did not.

Bruce Dern as an insane airship pilot.

Robert Shaw as a blood thirsty assassin.

Marte Keller as a hot blonde who spends a lot of time nikkid.

chickenf622@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 16d

Just be careful of that flammable helium! I kinda hope these things make a comeback would be cool to take a trans Atlantic flight in one.

DempstersBox@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 15d

I love it.
