i've learned to dread seeing this on my fur babies; but i suppose it's part of the deal of having these wonderful creatures in your life.

The luckiest people see their pets and parents and loved ones turn elderly. Its an honor and privaledge, all other alternatives are tragic

Sweetest love, I do not go,

For weariness of thee,

Nor in hope the world can show

A fitter love for me;

But since that I

Must die at last, 'tis best

To use myself in jest

Thus by feign'd deaths to die.

This hits close to home. My girl is 12 now and while she still loves going on walks she’s slowed a lot since she was a pup.

I brought mine home from the shelter when she was 8 and she was still a hell of a walker

Note: that feels dangerously close to peach fuzz. l've drifted to sleep while scratching her chin with just the fingertip of my index while whispering made-up songs about her adventures (we may have spotted a fawn or a boar on our morning hike) that I lost count
