Yeah, we all know it's Decemberween.

MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 16d

Here, I got you a Deep Impact DVD. ☃️

Clearly no one here has seen gravity falls enough times. Too bad this isn't a reference to that show.

ROFL I much prefer a Spooky Summer than a Christmas in July! Summerween, somebody did not run that by anyone before full sending it.

Halloween itself is already a farce; a commercial, US American circus, spreading all over the world. Never expected it could be topped.

fyzzlefry@retrolemmy.com · 5 pts · 16d (1 reply)

Didn't it start in Ireland?

notsosure@sh.itjust.works · -1 pts · 16d

It did, didn’t it? But as soon as US American business got their hands on it it went from a little known quaint pagan celebration for greenly dressed peasants believing in elves to a money making all engulfing commercial lederhosen Bierzelt screaming begging little kids broohaha for the stupid masses.

FFS… Let’s all do boycottween instead

HerbGrower@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 16d (3 replies)

Make your own decorations. Find a local independent shop that sells yarn and make little pumpkin pompoms. Hang them from a spiderweb.

MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 16d (2 replies)

Or, just boycott halloween altogether, like every other year.

HerbGrower@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 16d (1 reply)

Why? We just don't bother with the consumerism side of it, but seeing friends and making some decorations is fun. Plus seasonal food is great, I was going to eat food anyway.

PyroNeurosis@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 15d

Eat food? That's terrible boycottween ettiquette.

Kayday@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 16d

I get angry seeing Christmas things before December. I can see spooky fun stuff anytime and be happy.

Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io · 6 pts · 16d

I'm all for Spooky Season beginning as soon as the nights begin to lengthen, or really all year. And no that doesn't mean anyone needs to buy anything.

Godort@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 16d

"We have all this Halloween garbage from last year clogging our warehouse and we need to make room for this year's batch"

ChicoSuave@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 16d (1 reply)

Summerween is better than Halloween because it's still twilight during trick or treat hours and the weather is warm enough that you don't have to worry about exposed skin and cold weather. Plus way less likely for bad weather during summer.

They should really move the thinning of the barrier between worlds to late August, yeah

No but it sure fuckin' should be. Let the spook flag fly!

minorkeys@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 15d

Buy more shit. We know you like Halloween so let's just extend that all year, works for Christmas. What do you mean that has a negative impact on the cultural significance of the holiday?

Corporations are the greatest appropriators and destroyers of culture that have ever existed.

rem26_art@fedia.io · 2 pts · 16d (1 reply)

I noticed that Costco also had some Halloween stuff up last week too

HerbGrower@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 16d

Seen it in the UK. Tbh it is better than last year when they had Christmas stuff up by the end of August.

Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online · 2 pts · 16d

Not with that attitude

OwOarchist@pawb.social · 1 pts · 16d

Stores must really hate it that there are no major holidays in the late summer months that they can sell useless 'decorations' for.

Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe · 1 pts · 16d

What's a Target?

Oh, yea, it's that walmart-like store where everything is even more overpriced.
