It did, didn’t it? But as soon as US American business got their hands on it it went from a little known quaint pagan celebration for greenly dressed peasants believing in elves to a money making all engulfing commercial lederhosen Bierzelt screaming begging little kids broohaha for the stupid masses.
Why? We just don't bother with the consumerism side of it, but seeing friends and making some decorations is fun. Plus seasonal food is great, I was going to eat food anyway.
I'm all for Spooky Season beginning as soon as the nights begin to lengthen, or really all year. And no that doesn't mean anyone needs to buy anything.
Summerween is better than Halloween because it's still twilight during trick or treat hours and the weather is warm enough that you don't have to worry about exposed skin and cold weather. Plus way less likely for bad weather during summer.
Buy more shit. We know you like Halloween so let's just extend that all year, works for Christmas. What do you mean that has a negative impact on the cultural significance of the holiday?
Corporations are the greatest appropriators and destroyers of culture that have ever existed.

Clearly no one here has seen gravity falls enough times. Too bad this isn't a reference to that show.

ROFL I much prefer a Spooky Summer than a Christmas in July! Summerween, somebody did not run that by anyone before full sending it.

Halloween itself is already a farce; a commercial, US American circus, spreading all over the world. Never expected it could be topped.

Didn't it start in Ireland?

FFS… Let’s all do boycottween instead
HerbGrower@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 16d
Make your own decorations. Find a local independent shop that sells yarn and make little pumpkin pompoms. Hang them from a spiderweb.
MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 16d
Or, just boycott halloween altogether, like every other year.

I get angry seeing Christmas things before December. I can see spooky fun stuff anytime and be happy.

"We have all this Halloween garbage from last year clogging our warehouse and we need to make room for this year's batch"

I noticed that Costco also had some Halloween stuff up last week too
HerbGrower@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 16d
Seen it in the UK. Tbh it is better than last year when they had Christmas stuff up by the end of August.

Stores must really hate it that there are no major holidays in the late summer months that they can sell useless 'decorations' for.

What's a Target?
Oh, yea, it's that walmart-like store where everything is even more overpriced.
