Can we ban this?

The irony is, they won't be receiving applications from the best talent in their talent wells. Anyone that knows half their worth will simply move on to the next advertised role which will obviously be from a competitor.

jaykrown@lemmy.world · 34 pts · 2d (3 replies)

I did it once, and then didn't hear back, so never again. I may have missed it, but it wasn't clear on Indeed that would be required to apply until after I already engaged, which is frustrating.

toiletobserver@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 2d (1 reply)

At some point, i wouldn't apply to anything that made me copy paste my resume into a different form

Lyrl@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1d

Many applicants use an AI service to do the copy-pasting for them. Who cares if it messes up 10% of the fields, if it enables 300 applications to be submitted per day?

portifornia@piefed.social · 9 pts · 2d

Same.

Strider@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1d

But even before, there were the slow flake companies (for me it was BMW) that require you to tear apart all your information to put it into their custom form only to then automatically decide matching from that.

If that is the way you want to select your talent, suit yourself....

dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world · 76 pts · 2d (7 replies)

"Let our AI agent scan your résumé!"

No.

"Talk to our AI chatbot to complete your application!"

No.

"Tell us how you have used AI to enhance your workflow in the last X years!"

No.

"The responsibilities of this position include mandatory engagement with our dynamic and exciting ✨ AI agent ✨, and your usage will be obsessively monitored by your manager and used as a performance indicator instead of your actual work output!"

No.

"But if you don't embrace the AI Revolution ✨ you'll be left behind!"

Good. Me bang steel on anvil. Unga fuckin' bunga.

Let's see your dumbass "AI" actually produce something tangible. Pollution doesn't count.

daggermoon@piefed.world · 7 pts · 1d

So, I'm going to starve if I ever want an actual career instead of a low-paying retail job because I refuse to be subjected to this.

Makhno@lemmy.world · -33 pts · 2d (5 replies)

I like to use AI to help me with my macros and supplements and stat maxing my warframes. Thats about it.

echodot@feddit.uk · 12 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Copo speak has gotten so ridiculous that I have the absolutely no idea what you're trying to say.

T156@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 1d (1 reply)

There's a game called War frame, maybe they're talking about setting up their controls?

Like how you used to be able to get macros for fishing in runescape.

FinalRemix@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1d

Which is funny because DE said macros aren't allowed. It's one-input-per-one-action is the rule.

The absolute worst case for AI that I've come across is the attempt to use AI to ask job candidates questions to extract more information from them before the company has to lift a finger. It's breaking the contract that there is a respectful connection between the company and the one who is applying. Effectively, the contract is broken when the company expects the applicant to apply with never receiving any real valuable interaction, with the ability to simply click a button to reject their time investment. This is something that needs to be regulated and banned immediately. It is the worst professional use case for AI that I've experienced thus far.

random_user@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 31 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Job hunting data engineer here. The biggest issue I have with these is that they just refuse to allow you to even complete it when it detects standard bullshit on your computer.

Have an off brand microphone?
Crashes the app.

Using any other browser besides chrome?
Nope, fuck you. Won't allow you to continue.

Have a workstation with multiple monitors?
Nope, sorry. You have to fucking unplug all but one...

Using a VPN or ad blocker?
Ha, you have no privacy.

One of these things wanted me to use my phone and download an AI app. It's such an anti-human experience.

I'm instantly blocking your company from my search.

PhoenixDog@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1d

At that rate I'd rather just be unemployed. I don't need to do all that to live in a tent.

osanna@lemmy.vg · 28 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Can we also ban uploading your resume, then having to manually input all the stuff...... that's in your resume?

tazeycrazy@feddit.uk · 9 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I've noticed a lot of places stopped taking resume and cover letters. Rather they get you to fill a form that asked all the same questions. I assume it's so it's easier to parse though at the employers end. But it extends the application process. If you want the job you would need to spend a few hours looking and answering the questions. It gives no room for nuance or creativity.

cantstopthesignal@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 1d

Sounds like a job for AI.

boaratio@lemmy.world · 25 pts · 1d (9 replies)

I got laid off at the beginning of March, and the job hunt is fucking brutal. I'm a software engineer with 20+ years of experience, and it's just all AI now. Most companies just never respond, and if I'm lucky, I get to be interviewed by an AI chat bot, and then immediately rejected. I'm thinking about just going into the trades at this point.

mirshafie@europe.pub · 13 pts · 1d (4 replies)

They're still high on AI and the inevitable hangover is a few years down the line still. Maybe you can focus on your own software projects for a bit and take this time to do some work away from computers?

boaratio@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 1d (3 replies)

Most definitely. I got a generous severance package, so I've been doing tons of wood working, taking care of projects around the house, and hanging out with my kids. Unfortunately though, I'm a nerd and computers are my passion. I've done tons of coding projects in the meantime as well. It just blows my mind that someone with my education and career history can't find a job.

mirshafie@europe.pub · 3 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Yeah it's kind of crazy. I'm not a software engineer but my friends who are, feel like they're absolutely screwed. Spotify laid off 2500 people in Stockholm last year so there's insane competition for all jobs that do come out now.

The dumbest part of it is that AI means we need more engineers, not fewer. But it will take some time for the industry to figure that out.

boaratio@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d (1 reply)

As long as Daniel Ek can sleep at night....

P1nkman@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1d

I think we should make Daniel and Luigi meet.

gwl@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 4 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Honestly, being unemployed is a good time to fuck around and find out for any pet projects that you've been like "I'll get to that... EVENTUALLY", so whilst you're looking maybe do some of those?

If you're lucky you might even make something that you can sell

But first and foremost the goal is to keep the mind busy, really, so that you feel less stressed

lemmyng@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d (1 reply)

That's what I've been doing. Been archiving old photos, VHS tapes and documents that my deceased parents owned. Any tech job I've applied to has either yielded rejection or no response. Even for non-tech jobs like comic book shops or gaming shops haven't responded to my email inquiries about job openings.

I've also been playing a lot of video games, mainly PC ports like the recent Donkey Kong Land Remake, Banjo Kazooie Recomp/Lighthouse, Bomberman Hero Recomp, and Pokemon Gen1Recomp.

gwl@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 1d

Another thing, even if it's with a site builder, having a website that's basically just "here's my resume" and linking it at top of your resume is statistically shown to improve replies.

Also, there any agencies in your neck of the woods? They're fucking vampires, but if you go in aware of that, you can trick them into finding jobs for you by not lying but being creative with the truth and lies of omission. And most don't charge, but instead go "we take 10% of your first paid wage"

FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1d

I’m thinking about just going into the trades at this point.

If you did that and then landed another job in software part way through/after qualifying, it wouldn't be a waste of time, right? Because you'd still have skills for use on your own projects

mlg@lemmy.world · 25 pts · 2d (3 replies)

FedEx forces you to use their AI chatbot to apply lmao.

Just click any of their listings and it redirects to a slop site.

ecvanalog@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 1d

FedEx is on the fucking list as far as I’m concerned.

Whatever agency handles their hiring emailed me REPEATEDLY over several weeks to talk about how they were urgently hiring.

I did all the things including their AI interview and was told I was a great candidate and was going to be hired. They sent me to a form to give them my availability.

I told them 24/7, I just needed a job. I got an immediate rejection because my availability didn’t match their needs.

The next week they laid off a bunch of people at my local facility.

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 5 pts · 1d (1 reply)

even some big box stores are using ai chatbot to hire people, and its almost never good.

FinalRemix@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 1d

You donpt need the "almost" in there.

Abyssian@lemmy.world · 24 pts · 2d (1 reply)

I hate it so much. I'm looking for a job currently and it seems like everything is a scam to collect your personal data, wants you to video chat with AI to use that as moar data, and wants you to spend 3 hours looking at pictures with no context at all and choosing one of two responses. I have no idea what data that last one could even give.

Picture shows 4 people all doing different things with seemingly different emotions. You get to pick "This is me" or "This is not me."

Are AI making the tests too? Because that shit makes no sense. "Yes, I am a small collective of different humans who do different things simultaneously while experiencing human emotions."

lemmyng@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d

I nearly fell for a "job opening" that asked me to download an apk file that would've given the app Device Manager access. My alarm bells went off and I uninstalled the app immediately. That about killed my hope for finding anything legit in tech ever again.

almost1337@lemmy.zip · 22 pts · 2d

I have only come across this nonsense a couple of times in my job search. I refused each time.

homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 2d

The job market is SO FUCKED.

fartographer@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Create your own AI avatar to perform all the interviews. Apply to jobs using agents. Get multiple jobs, do the least you can possibly do for each, and get paid. If they can't be bothered to hire their own employees, they don't deserve real employees.

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 23h

people already are using AI to auto-apply, make resume, COVER letters. and im guessing employers are doing the same . AI VS AI. and people are barely getting any back, although some do have sucess in getting interview, but the amount of interviews they go through is insane per listing.

pdxfed@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 1d

Indeed recently made it so you can no longer store your resume to attach easily to applications; it was too useful. Now they auto -move you into a "were processing this with AI" workflow so that you won't need your resume anymore (of course after you've fixed all their shit AI parsing of your resume) you'll just need Indeed.

We definitely need a new horse in the race other than indeed and LinkedIn.

Indeed got me nowhere in job interviews and blanket emailed me with unnavigable generic ghost link messages every day, maybe even twice a day, AND pushes you to sign up with your main email.

Most helpful to least helpful for getting responses has been:

  • Uni's catered job board (i think they use a 3rd service provider of jobs from the local area)
  • linkedIn or Hiring cafe (tied)
  • imagine like 5 things between the above and below, for scale.
  • Indeed
  • Companies websites directly (indeed often asks you to apply there)

edit: I actually hadn't used hiring cafe so much until tonight, i went and made a bunch of quickfire applications on it just now! It's super good for easily applying to places

ecvanalog@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Gotta be honest my friend, this feels like ad copy injected into Lemmy

FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1d

I just write like that. Obsessed with sharing information and listing things in bullet points. Wanted to help people who struggle with modern job searches like i do.

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 1d (2 replies)

hiring cafe is janky, its buggy when you are trying to choose locations.

FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I didn't really know because all job search things are fucked in European countries in my experience - they're made for American communities where people commute much further and cities are further apart.

Thank you for pointing that out

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 23h

trying to localize the search, but it kept giving only listings that are far apart from your preferred search location.i dont know how good this site is, i saw older post and reddit saying its more useful? but nobody is fixing the sites bugs.
