George Orwell might be trending but it's still outside the range of standard reading material.
It would be like complaining about military service while reading Starship Troopers 1959 or War of the Worlds 1898, or even complaining that the church is alien akin to Micromégas 1752.
I think we had to read animal farm in middle school, and I do remember people making some pretty horrible takes afterwards. This is a troll for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me to hear a more hamfisted version of this being repeated by a libertarian.

I don't know I've heard no shortage of conservatives referencing 1984.... with the assumption that it's what would happen if the democrats took power, and a total lack of realizing which party is currently pushing those style of policies and building spy cams everywhere.
Its a quick read, and for a lot of people their "favorite" book is just the last one they were required to read in high school. Because they haven't read anything longer than an instagram comment since.

It's anticommunist, sure, but only in the sense that communism was primarily used to describe the Soviet fuckers when it was written.
It's funny how right wingers describe things they don't like as communism in the same way those Tankie fucks describe Capitalism. Truly two sides of the same coin.

the obvious troll in the op is criticising capitalism in the guise of criticising communism, under cover of pretending animal farm is doing the same. i don't see how any of your points follow from that
It's not a 1:1 analogy but you're fixating on the irony part while I'm saying it would be a dead giveaway of a person trolling because they referenced really old literature while pretending to be clueless.
on vacation a couple of months ago I was reading in a deck chair and the landlady of our airbnb came by and chatted to me about books. she said "I just read that Animal Farm - I had no idea it was so politicial"
