I made some spoons....

The one that has the grain going the wrong direction, it's a cutting bord cut off. I figured, what the hell, it's probably just going to be decorative.

Excuse me. This is Dull Men's Club not Awesome Men's Club.

I figured enough people make them, it's got to be a bit dull..

And indeed you did not make knives, spoons are expected to be dull!

That would be true like 200 years ago, every guy would know some woodworking because you are a farmer and you are poor.

Hey, you made use of every bit of material that you could. That's some real craftsman thinking.

They say he carved it himself... from a bigger spoon

Those are really nice. Did you do it all with hand carving?

Jerb322@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 5d (3 replies)

No, a bit of everything. Thank you

What kind of tools did you use for the dugout portion? I really want to make some but hand-carving is kind of a pain in the ass.

Dremel, on the cut off spoon and the blonde one. The little one was a spoon knife. The little one started as a pretty small piece of wood. All hand tools and sandpaper on that one.

I also use a hand held belt sander that I pin to my table with clamps. Green wood is the best if you use a knife, but then you gotta worry about it cracking as it dries.

Not if you use a sharp tool. And sharpening and stropping are good skills for a Dull Man to have. Because it is, in fact, a dull process.

Which reminds me, I need to touch up a chainsaw chain to do some trees cutting on my yard soon.
