25.6 million LGBTQ+ adults in US; transgender population twice prior estimates: Study

The Human Rights Campaign announced Thursday that it estimates 25.6 million LGBTQ+ adults live in the U.S., a significant increase from previous estimates of the nation’s sexual orientation and gender identity minority.

It’s 12% of all U.S. adults, according to the LGBTQ+ civil rights nonprofit. Its estimate also found that over 7% of U.S. adults are bisexual and 3.27% of U.S. adults are lesbian or gay.
