It sucks that this shit is going to keep happening until there's only like 1/4th of the USA being somewhat safe for us with varying degrees of bigotry in the others- oh fuck we are already there, aren't we.
Oh honey I am so sorry. Dealing with people who barely make an effort is so fucking exausting. Maybe you can talk to your bf after you collect yourself and do some self care. His comment was definitely unhelpful at a time when you needed a hug and a friend.
One thing i can think of is be sure to get their preferred name in addition to pronouns, and that all staff use that name. Perhaps your software has a space for preferred name and pronouns already. I have found that many systems don't have those data entry fields or even on the off chance they do, it is often overlooked if staff aren't trained to pay attention to them.
And honestly, the biggest gripe i had before legally changing my name was telling people that info only for it to be ignored the next time i went there especially when it is right there on the paper they are reading from.
The second biggest gripe is getting deadnamed in emails, phone calls and texts even when a business has a preffered name field.
I am so glad this person is already starting off with a concerned and caring staff member. Good for you.
But either way, this society has a severe lack of sex ed. I got the chicken pox in 5th grade and missed almost the entire week. Only caught the last day of it and i was totally lost.
