Yeah, that'd be nice. I've had cancer twice in the last year that required a surgery, overnight stay, and multi-day recovery each. Guess who's out of PTO? Love being punished for getting sick.

I can't imagine living in a country where you have to pay for lifesaving treatment. Although if the voters in the UK don't wake up and smell the stale-cigarette-and-puke-scented coffee, I might not have to imagine.
I don't think most ever will, because they want minorities to suffer. Essentially it's a whole demographic of people that shit themselves and and then walk around outside forcing other people to smell it; and as long as some of those people are minorities they will continue shitting themselves and walking around.
In Germany you get 6 consecutive weeks (per disease). After that you get paid 70% of your wage (before taxes) from your health insurance up to a maximum of 136€/day (up to 1,5 years).
This is what my workplace does whenever someone is significantly ill. We all chip in our very limited PTO days to help out and make sure that the powers that be don't miss out on any labor hours.
