The thumbnail is an image of mug cakes that I make as a snack. I failed making that cake because it overflowed out of the mug.

This is the cornbread mix I get from Walmart for pretty cheap and I can make over a weeks worth of mug cake with a single bag.
It only takes me about a few minutes to make in the microwave. I make mine with milk and honey instead of water. Cheap as packet of Ramen noodles and probably more calories than ramen noodles

How long should I let it cool down before I make the hole in it?

Just grit your teeth a and shove it in.

Its like a geyser hole. The milk gets hot and frothy and pushing the mix through the center of the mug.

A great backpacking breakfast is PB+J grits. Add peanut butter and jelly to cornbread mix.
Bonus is you can get cornbread mix pretty much anywhere in the US for cheap.

Looks interesting, do you use baking powder to make it rise?
Edit: Ah, I see that it's "self-rising" - did they add baking powder? We don't have that kind of thing here.

Baking powder is already mixed in it does add to the salt content through.
I would do a regular cornmeal in a mug but I like the fluffy texture
