I've been autistic with sensory issues all my life. I'm about to turn 51. All I can tell you youngsters is that it does get easier with time and your coping mechanisms do improve.

There is a pattern where people who are not as good at something become really good at it because they have to actually try to compensate.

I often struggle with balance-coordination just navigating my house, but i can hold my balance standing on something narrow real good. (I bet this is not uncommon with light dcd)

filtering sensory information is also one of those things. There are records of autistic people holding up trough extremely stressful and sensatory experiences simply because their battlehardend from ordinary life.

Thank you for the advice. I have been recently (self-) diagnosed (43f), and it's been tough. It wasn't tough before as I had no clue, but now I am having a hard time because I recognize i was having a hard time before (and still), but my previous coping mechanisms stopped working. Gotta develop some new ones...

Nooooooo, socks must always be on. Socks are an crucial clothing item that determines how naked the individual is.

With socks on, you're never naked. Without socks, you're always naked.

Though an important qualifier, those must be proper socks, not one of those odd slippery toe warmers. Those things should be incinerated at the factory where those were made.

Someone wearing socks and nothing else is still very naked.

As a police officer explained the other day, nakedness is generally based on whether your "rude bits" are visible.

He also explained that a cafe/bar offering a "bottomless brunch" should be thought of as "like a bottomless pit of drink and food - endless refills" rather than "akin to a topless beach, where you fully undress one half of your body".

I feel more naked with just socks on than when wearing nothing at all.

Obviously, it's purely feelings based not rooted in legality. Without socks, but fully clothed, i feel more naked and exposed than with socks, but naked otherwise.

Though it can be easily solved with an extra sock on a tactical location.

Ah, the old Red Hot Chilli Peppers stage costume!

I'm exactly the opposite. If socks aren't on, I can't focus on anything except all the non-sock textures touching my feet

Talking is easy, I hardly ever wear socks.
