Marlaina (her actual first name at birth) is a traitor to Canada.

Danielle Smith is the Canadian Natalie Harp. She's done everything short of dyeing her hair blonde to avail Trump-senpai and the broader culture war dipshitverse.

Trump is a bad dude with about 0 redeeming qualities, the fact that she keeps running over there to calm him down after he straight up attacked Canada is fucking pathetic.

After her "mandate" ultimately collapses, I hope she considers fleeing the country and spending some time wedged in a catering cart with Diaper Don.

There's a few items in the CTV article what she said actually make some sense:

Smith predicted if Canada were to enact a 50 per cent tariff on the four million barrels of oil exported south each day, the U.S. would retaliate with tariffs of 50 to 100 per cent on refined oil and gas products exported to Canada, such as aviation fuel.

Canada exports crude to the USA and imports refined products so we need to be careful on export taxes.

This sounds like Alberta for once may be following Sasketchewan's lead on not boycotting USA alcohol but adding a provincial tax on it:

Smith said one committee, made up of her cabinet members, is set to meet Thursday to discuss following Saskatchewan’s lead by imposing a 50 per cent tax on U.S. alcohol brought into that province.

Nothing because the wests left politicians are afraid to do anything as it might offend someone. The right just seem to do whatever they want without caring. Such a shit show can't wait for this whole thing to come tumbling down.

How is this any different than maintaining a US trade representative? Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario each have one.

Yes. A trade representative promotes provincial products and will try to attract businesses to move. They are there to pitch products and attract investment but do so within the boundaries of existing policy and regulations. The premier is a decision maker, and her presence signals a willingness to change policies and regulations. Coming hard on the escalation of trade tensions with the US it has the appearance of undermining the federal government's negotiating position.

Do you also believe Doug Ford's comments regarding Trump also undermine Canada's negotiating position?

It does seem hypocritical to be critical of Smith's desire for communication while at the same time be supportive of provincial trade representatives in the US that basically have the same goal.

I think its disingenuous to characterize the trip as a "desire for communication" or to equate her purpose with that of a trade representative. If she wants a bureaucratic job she is welcome to apply for one.

So please fish somewhere else.

She's going to see if she can somehow break the stalemate and maybe get them back to the table. Smith also cannot change federal policy on foreign affairs which includes trade. The provincial trade ambassadors are there to promote their provincial exports to the USA, much like Smith is doing as well. So either talking is good, or talking is bad.

In my opinion, talking is always good.
