Superb. I've never thought that I looked good in a hat, so my sartorial headgear consists of a baseball cap for driving open-topped cars, and a large straw hat with a chin strap for gardening and lounging in the pool. Functional, but neither would win me any style points.
I was rewatching Night Court and every so often you see Judge Stone wearing a hat like this. I don't know if it's the jeans he's also often wearing, or the joke ties, but the hat does not seem to fit his look. He looks kind of like a goof, which does fit his character! Lol
It is not possible to comfortably wear anything else today than a baseball cap or a bucket hat if you can pull it off. Maybe panama hat if it's hot outside.
I just want to be adequately protected from the sun while following the societal expectations of dress.

No lies there. 80 years later, those hats are all still classy.

Can confirm - a good hat is a great gift.
Keeps the sun off in summer, and the rain off in winter.

I think I'd wear a hat if I didn't bike everywhere. Can't wear helmet and hat at the same time, and the hat would blow off because I'm so fast 🚲

I've known several people who wear those hats like Raiden from Mortal Kombat.

Right when the hat industry was starting to decline, in part because of the cars.
