Hmmm. Couldn’t figure out how to send a message to multiple people via the web UI, my phone is way on the other side of the room, and I wrote this draft on my laptop. So the other moderator here got the same message.

I don’t do posts, but I wrote a thing that I wanted to share with your community. Do what you will with it.

I don’t subscribe to this community, because I don’t really subscribe to things. My usage of the fediverse is the same as it was on reddit: I just look at what cream makes its way to the top (surprising amount of porn). I expect paywalled “news”, scientific articles about the world burning, cops doing cop things, trump doing trump things, and the occasional rescued owl and adorable fox. You know, doom scrolling the fall of humanity like god intended.

It started with the selfies, the most annoying of all pictures. People loving their bodies, or loving how their bodies are starting to align with their brain. Sometimes it was ridiculous smiles, other times it was coy, just a tiny glint of a smile, with uncertainty behind the eyes. And sometimes I could feel the eye roll that happened just before the pic was taken with a ‘fuck it, let’s do this’ attitude.

I would open up jerboa, prepare my mind for the ways that humanity is slowly committing suicide, and start scrolling. But nooo. I couldn’t even do that in peace. Every couple of posts, suddenly this community would pop up, with some beautiful person beaming at the camera, and oooozing happiness out of my monitor onto my keyboard. I can’t help but smile, completely ruining my doom scroll.

YOU FUCKERS RUINED THE FEDIVERSE!! Please don’t stop.
