My family has given up funerals. An inexpensive cremation and urn is all that's expected, but even that will run up to a few hundred bucks.
And who is responsible for it? My wife is carrying her mother's urn around, and someday I'll be responsible for my parents'. Then we'll go, and that's FIVE sets of remains being passed down to my son! What's he supposed to do with all these old dead people?
Where I live pretty much everyone will have insurance that covers funeral costs. It costs about 5 euros per month. If they don't have insurance the money they left in their bank account or their property will cover it. As with pretty much everything else, this sounds like a problem specifically created by the industry to rip people off.
It's called disappearing in remote woods or a deep lake with a note instructing people not to bother looking. Sheesh, stupid Americans over-complicating simple shit again.
And really they did it mostly by virtue of their combined efforts to impose racial capitalism and imperialism upon the world. I.e., they don't even think enough about the proletariat to actively make dying more expensive for us, they just let it happen.

Plan to scatter from the get go and save a bunch of money not buying an urn. Cardboard box and a plastic bag from the crematorium.

Death has kind of always been expensive.
Ossuaries are basically just piles of bones from people not prestigious enough to find a permanent burrial site.

Capitalism isn't failing, it's doing as expected, and everyone has made sure things get worse. Just that the GQP have accelerated.
